Creating an Urban Destination in Chesapeake Sponsored
“Summit Pointe is quickly becoming a glowing beacon in our city,” said Chesapeake Mayor Rick West. “Summit Pointe is creating a top-tier destination in Chesapeake that will continue to attract new businesses and job opportunities as well as provide our citizens with new residential and entertainment options.”
Summit Pointe Lives Up to Its Lofty Name
What was once a 10-year vision is now a reality. Summit Pointe has emerged in Chesapeake’s Central Business District, the largest in the Hampton Roads region, as Coastal Virginia’s newest metropolitan center. A $330 million investment is transforming the Central Business District into a walkable hub with world-class offices, distinctive urban residences, unique retailers, fine dining restaurants and a local brewery.
Summit Pointe has already become a premier business location with 69 acres strategically located in the center of the region. More than 3,600 businesses and 35,000 employees are located within a three-mile radius. And Dollar Tree’s 510,000-square-foot high-rise office tower is the anchor. Recently ranked 137 on the Fortune 500 list, Dollar Tree, Inc (NASDAQ: DLTR), has more than 2,000 employees at Summit Pointe, while also hosting international business associates to its Support Center daily.
Work and Thrive.
While Summit Pointe currently has two signature office buildings comprising 660,000 square feet, the urban plan envisions more than one million square feet of office space, up to 500,000 square feet of retail space, approximately 250,000 square feet of hospitality and conference space and 1,400-plus residences.
555 Belaire is an unrivaled six-story office tower with creative architectural spaces nestled between Volvo Parkway and Belaire Avenue. The 150,000-square-foot tower was completed in 2020. An impressive multi-story lobby is embellished with a stunning mural by internationally recognized artist Mathew Curran. Other lobby art installations include Susie Ganch’s site-specific sculpture, Labor. Street-level retail and restaurant spaces along with outdoor parks and plazas accentuate the design. Most recently, an urban streetscape sculpture, Green Dragon Rhythm by Rob Lorenson, was installed at the 555 Belaire Plaza.
Helix, Summit Pointe’s first apartment building with 133 residences, was completed in the summer 2020. It was fully leased within 90 days. Construction of the next signature property named Mosaic was started in 2021. A six-story building with distinctive ground-floor retail spaces, Mosaic will have one-, two-, and three-bedroom residences with French-style and full balconies overlooking a dramatically designed interior courtyard. Mosaic, with 167 apartments, is scheduled to open in November 2022 followed by Vista, with 103 apartments scheduled to open in May 2023. These two apartment projects, plus an imbedded 515-car parking deck and street-level retail and restaurant spaces, will complete development on the third block of Summit Pointe. The shared courtyard amplifies an urban lifestyle with a resort-style swimming pool, lap pool with infinity edge, cabanas, fire pits, dog walk and dog-wash station. Other amenities include a clubhouse, fitness center and concierge services. All residences have direct access to a parking deck on each floor level.
Summit Pointe has already attracted Wasserhund Brewing Company, First Watch and Pale Horse Coffee. Additionally, two fine dining restaurants, Luce Secondo (now open) and Cork & Bull (opening soon), will anchor Helix and Mosaic. These street-level restaurants will include a colonnade with a plaza and outdoor dining. The unique dining experiences will complement the urban lifestyle emerging at Summit Pointe with each additional property developed.
Phase Three of development will expand the retail and living opportunities along Belaire Avenue while also adding green space, a high end, full-service hotel and a third high-rise office tower. Office and retail leasing are currently underway.
