White House party crasher Tareq Salahi has decided to pursue his gubernatorial ambitions as an independent rather than as a Republican as he initially planned.
Salahi announced those plans Monday morning, hours before the 5 p.m. deadline for statewide candidates to file with the Virginia Republican Party to be on the slate for the GOP nominating convention in May.

An effort to begin the process of repealing Virginia’s constitutional amendment prohibiting gay marriage was turned back today in a House of Delegates subcommittee.
The amendment, approved by voters in a 2006 referendum, defines marriage as "only a union between one man and one woman.”
