Va. Beach defense contractor to create 100 jobs

Valkyrie Enterprises Inc. will also be moving into larger headquarters

Published May 18, 2020 by Sydney Lake

Virginia Beach-based defense contractor Valkyrie Enterprises Inc. announced Friday it has received a $125,000 grant from the Virginia Beach Development Authority (VBDA) to aid in its planned expansion by 100 full-time jobs during the next three years.

“Valkyrie Enterprises epitomizes the real value of these grants,” Economic Development Director Taylor Adams said in a statement. “By investing modest funds to grow Valkyrie’s footprint in Virginia Beach, we add the kind of high-paying jobs to our local economy we are always looking to support.”

The new jobs will be in the areas of project management, engineering design and technical writing, paying average annual salaries of $75,000 or more.

Founded in 2007, Valkyrie Enterprises also has locations in King George; Newport News; Norfolk; Bremerton, Washington; Camarillo, California; San Diego; and Marinette, Wisconsin. It employs 202 people at its Virginia Beach location at 4460 Corporation Lane. As part of the expansion plan, the company plans to relocate to a 66,000-square-foot leased space at 2877 Guardian Lane in Virginia Beach, approximately 6 miles from its current headquarters. Valkyrie Enterprises hasn’t yet released a timeline on the move.

“The city of Virginia Beach has been a supportive partner since the day I started this business,” said Valkyrie Enterprises President and CEO Gary M. Lisota. “I am convinced an ingredient to our success is because of our headquarters’ location and our municipality. The city itself is large enough to serve a defense contractor like us and small enough to really know us.”

The grant was made through the VBDA’s Economic Development Investment Program (EDIP), which the Virginia Beach City Council created more than 25 years ago to help local companies grow. Economic Development Department staff work with companies seeking the EDIP grant. Grants are made based on the amount of capital investment and job creation during a 36-month period.

A Virginia Values Veterans (V3) certified company, Valkyrie Enterprises offers engineering, technical services and training to commercial and governmental clients, including the federal government and Department of Defense. Administered by the Department of Veterans Services, the V3 program is designed to connect Virginia veterans to the  workforce, assisting with recruiting, hiring, training and retaining military veterans in civilian jobs.
