Tysons insurance broker Ames & Gough promotes three execs

CEO Dan Knise takes on chair position, Matt Gough is president and Brett Gough is COO

Ames & Gough Insurance Risk Management Inc. CEO Dan Knise will also serve as the chair of the Tysons-based insurance broker, which announced Tuesday that it was also promoting two senior executives to leadership positions.

As chair and CEO, Knise will focus on the firm’s strategy and initiatives and will mentor new employees. He became firm president in 2005 and has almost 40 years of leadership experience in the industry.

Matt Gough was appointed as president and his brother, Brett Gough, was appointed as COO and will retain his executive vice president title. (Their father, Gary, is one of the firm’s two founding partners.)

“During their careers, Matt and Brett both have demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities marked by numerous managerial accomplishments, effective colleague mentoring and development, and strong performance results driven by a shared commitment to excellent client service,” Knise said in a statement.

Matt Gough will be responsible for the firm’s day-to-day operations including sales, marketing, client service, accounting, human resources, technology and market relations. Brett Gough will focus on firm-wide sales, marketing and client service and will manage Boston operations.

Brett Gough  joined the firm in 1995 and has worked on business development and risk management. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and holds the Construction Risk & Insurance Specialist designation from the International Risk Management Institute.

Matt Gough joined the firm in 2001 and has worked with design-firm clients, led business development and managed the firm’s contractors professional liability insurance program. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and is active in area chapters of the American Council of Engineering Companies.

Founded in 1992, Ames & Gough has more than 1,500 clients. It has additional offices in Boston, Orlando and Philadelphia and has approximately 40 employees.
