Transportation: DAVID C. WHITE
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, VIRGINIA MARITIME ASSOCIATION, NORFOLK
White’s best advice is to follow the Golden Rule, a lesson handed down to him by his parents.
He joined the VMA in 2003 and advocates for its 500 member companies before state and federal leaders. The association’s priorities include encouraging investment in education and training, increasing the inventory of shovel-ready sites for industry and supporting the dredging of the region’s shipping channels to become the widest and deepest on the East Coast.
White’s advocacy extends beyond his work. He chairs the Virginia Freight Transportation Advisory Committee and is secretary and treasurer of the National Association of Maritime Organizations.
He is also executive vice president and secretary of the Hampton Roads Shipping Association and past chair of the Virginia Harbor Safety Committee, a role for which he received the Meritorious Public Service Award in February from the Coast Guard, which
noted his leadership and advocacy for safety and innovation, ensuring safe navigation of the region’s shared waterways.
