Tegna makes an investment in sports media company
McLean-based Tegna Inc. has invested an undisclosed amount of money in Whistle Sports, a sports media company.
Tegna will have a seat on the Whistle Sports board of directors.
Whistle Sports focuses on providing sports content for millennials. Begun in 2014, it has a library of more than 230,000 videos. It uses more than 1,720 channels to drive more than 600 million video views each month.
“Whistle Sports is an emerging powerhouse that has built a unique set of content and distribution capabilities that set the digital video network apart,” Gracia Martore, the president and CEO of Tegna, said in a statement. “This investment and strategic partnership will not only enable both of our companies to reach valuable new audiences, it will also combine our respective expertise to create more innovative content and advertising solutions.”
Tegna includes Tegna Media, which has 46 television stations and is the largest independent station group of major network affiliates in the top 25 markets.
Another division, Tegna Digital includes Cars.com, CareerBuilder and other brands such as G/O Digital and Cofactor.
