Retail/Wholesale: GEORGE L. HOLM
CHAIRMAN, PRESIDENT AND CEO, PERFORMANCE FOOD GROUP CO., GOOCHLAND COUNTY
A scheduling conflict kept Holm from attending the ceremony when he was chosen as a 2019 inductee of the Grand Canyon University Alumni Hall of Fame.
This March, Holm, who graduated from the Phoenix-based Christian university in 1977 with a degree in business administration, was finally able to travel to Arizona to accept the honor. “I wasn’t a 4.0 student, and I didn’t expect it,” Holm told the university’s news bureau.
Over the course of his 40-year career in the food service distribution industry, Holm held leadership roles with Sysco Corp., US Foods and Alliant Foodservice Inc. After founding Vistar Corp. in 2002, he served as president and CEO of the company, which stocks vending machines and other snack arenas, until an equity firm purchased it in 2007.
Vistar later merged with PFG when that company was purchased by equity firms in 2008. Holm then took over leadership of the company, which delivers food and related products to over 300,000 locations and is ranked No. 112 on the Fortune 500. Earlier this year, PFG donated $50,000 to the nonprofit World Central Kitchen to provide meals to Ukrainian refugees.
