Founded more than 57 years ago by Jon Peterson’s late father, Milt, Peterson Cos. is responsible for some of the most prominent mixed-use retail, residential and office developments in Northern Virginia and Maryland. Its projects include National Harbor, Virginia Gateway, Downtown Silver Spring, Rio Washingtonian Center, Burke Centre and Tysons McLean Office Park. Milt Peterson was instrumental in the development of National Harbor from an underutilized waterfront property to a mixed-use waterfront destination that is now home to Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, MGM National Harbor and The Capital Wheel.
In 2016, Jon Peterson became chairman of the company’s executive committee, and in 2018 he was named CEO. He serves on George Mason University’s board of visitors, as well as on the boards of the Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance and Christian nonprofit Youth for Tomorrow. In his free time, Peterson plays on the Middlebury Alumni Lacrosse Club.
