Gillis joined Big Four accounting firm KPMG as a partner in 1998, bringing a wealth of experience as an auditor, lawyer and tax professional for Fortune 500 and mid-market companies in a variety of industries.

As the Chesapeake region’s managing partner since 2019, Gillis is responsible for leading market strategy, supervising more than 2,700 employees and building brand relationships for KPMG in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

He previously was CEO of KPMG Capital and global head of tax technology and data analytics. He began his career as an auditor with Arthur Young & Co. (an Ernst & Young forerunner) in 1985 and practiced law in the 1990s in the greater Atlanta area.

A published poet, Gillis serves on the board of visitors for Georgetown University, where he earned his law degree and has been an adjunct professor of law. He also serves on the board of trustees for Nationals Philanthropies, the Washington Nationals baseball team’s charitable arm.
