Northern Virginia Media Services to publish three more newspapers

Published April 23, 2015 by Robert Powell, III

Leesburg-based Northern Virginia Media Services’ regional publishing empire continues to expand.

The company has been awarded Department of Defense contracts to publish the Belvoir Eagle and the Quantico Sentry, two military base newspapers in Northern Virginia.

In addition, the Stafford County Sun, a weekly newspaper distributed in northern Stafford County, also joined the company this month.

The Belvoir Eagle serves the Fort Belvoir, an Army base in southeastern Fairfax County. The weekly is distributed free of charge to homes on the base as well as to most office buildings and public locations.

Distribution also includes the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency headquarters and the Washington Headquarters Services at the Mark Center in Alexandria.

The Quantico Sentry also is distributed at no charge to homes and offices on Marine Corps Base Quantico in southeastern Prince William County.

Under the terms of the Defense contracts, Northern Virginia Media Services provides editorial support, sells advertising, and prints and delivers the newspapers.  Content is generated under the auspices of the respective public affairs offices.

“We’re delighted that the leaders of these large military bases have placed their faith in us to help communicate their missions, and we’re proud to serve the military in this way,” Bruce Potter, chief operating officer of Northern Virginia Media Services, said in a statement.  “In turn, these publications allow us to offer new print and digital marketing solutions to local businesses looking to extend their reach and grow their brands, especially with the military community and along the Interstate 95 corridor.”

The base newspapers websites are www.belvoireagleonline.com and www.quanticosentryonline.com.

Stafford online content can be found at www.staffordcountysun.com, but it eventually will be consolidated with the company’s regional news site, InsideNoVa.com.

The additional three papers are expected to boost the company’s total weekly distribution to 200,000 Northern Virginia households.

Northern Virginia Media Services publishes five other weekly newspapers in four counties: Leesburg Today and Ashburn Today in Loudoun County; the Sun Gazette serving Great Falls, McLean, Oakton, Tysons and Vienna in Fairfax County; the Arlington Sun Gazette, and Prince William Today.

The company also publishes a monthly newspaper, Middleburg Life, and Washington FAMILY Magazine, a monthly parenting guide distributed throughout the Washington area.  Its websites include InsideNoVa.com, LeesburgToday.com and WashingtonFamily.com.
