New 34,500-square-foot medical memory center will be built in Chesterfield County

Published March 24, 2014 by Paula C. Squires

The Memory Center, a private company based in Virginia Beach, plans to build a second center, a residential community for people with Alzheimer’s and other related dementia, in Chesterfield Coutny.

The company said the 34,500-square-foot facility will be located on a four-acre site contiguous to Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian.
The Memory Center of Richmond is scheduled to open by the beginning of 2015 creating 80 new jobs.  According to the company, it would be one of the few stand-alone, assisted living communities in Virginia dedicated exclusively to memory care.

“This facility will set a new standard in the greater Richmond area for the care and well-being of people suffering with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of cognitive loss,” Kevin DiBona, the company’s chairman and CEO, said in a statement.

The facility would offer 48 residential units constructed around an “Town Center” concept.” The center would be a centralized amenity area with a movie theater, library, general store, bank, tavern, library, ice cream stand and salon.

Each wing within the community would serve as a separate ‘”neighborhood” equipped with common areas and a corresponding theme.
The center also would offer a 4-to-1 resident-to-staff ratio and coordinated therapy services. Monthly room rates for a semi private room would starts at $4,500, and private rooms would start at $7,000 per month. The company said it plans to offer special introductory rates prior to opening.

The Memory Center of Richmond represents the company’s second community. Its first center is in Virginia Beach on Old Donation Parkway.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to carry on with our mission to provide the absolute best possible care for individuals with this difficult disease” added DiBona.  “ … We want the highest quality of life for those suffering with Alzheimer’s and cognitive memory loss.”
