Manufacturing: ASHLEY B. SMITH
CHAIRMAN, PRESIDENT and CEO, SMITH-MIDLAND CORP., MIDLAND
Although Smith became CEO in 2018, he did not become Smith-Midland Corp.’s board chairman until January 2022, after his father, Rodney I. Smith, stepped down after 62 years.
The family company, founded in 1960 by David G. Smith (Ashley Smith’s grandfather), manufactures, licenses, rents and sells precast concrete products. The company was originally known as the Smith-Cattle Guard Co. for its concrete cattle guard. These days, Smith-Midland is a publicly traded company with manufacturing facilities in the Carolinas. Its subsidiaries are Concrete Safety Systems and Easi-Set Worldwide. Smith-Midland reported $50.6 million in fiscal 2021 revenue, a 15% increase over 2020, when it brought in $43.8 million.
Smith serves on the board of trustees at his alma mater, Bridgewater College, where he graduated with a degree in business administration.
