Law 2023: VICTOR O. CARDWELL

Cardwell grew up in a family that highly valued education, and after his sister went to law school, so did he. A University of Virginia and Washington and Lee law graduate, Cardwell now is one of the leaders at the state’s fifth largest law firm, which formed in 2022 with the merger of Vandeventer Black and Woods Rogers.

He previously was Woods Rogers’ chair, and he has been very active in Roanoke, offering legal counsel to nonprofit organizations including Mill Mountain Zoo, the Bradley Free Clinic and the United Way of Roanoke Valley. He also was president of the Virginia Bar Association in 2022 and continues to serve on the board as its immediate past president. Cardwell serves on the VBA’s committee on federal judgeships in the Western District, which recommends candidates for open judgeships.

As co-chair of the firm’s labor and employment group, Cardwell has represented clients before state and federal courts and administrative agencies, including the National Labor Relations Board.
