Law 2023: BENJAMIN J. LEIGH

A native of Northern Virginia, Leigh works with business and real estate clients on transactions, planning and litigation. He graduated from the University of Richmond and earned his law degree cum laude from the same school. After clerking for then-Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia Harry L. Carrico, he practiced with Blankingship & Keith before joining Troxell Leigh (then known as Mims, Atwill & Leigh) in 2002.

In 2020, Leigh received the Virginia State Bar’s Traver Scholar Award, which honors attorneys who demonstrate the highest ideals and expertise while practicing real estate law and who have shared their knowledge with others.

As Virginia’s largest statewide voluntary organization of lawyers and judges, the Virginia Bar Association installed Leigh as its 2023 president in January. He joined the association in 1997 and has served on its real estate council.

Leigh encouraged all VBA members to take up three resolutions to carry on the association’s work: “Today and this coming year,” he said at his installation, “I would charge each of you to carry the message to others seeking exceptionalism — the message that you belong in the VBA.”
