Kroger Mid-Atlantic division office to move to Henrico

Grocery chain announces plans to move office from Roanoke to Glen Allen

Published August 4, 2020 by Sydney Lake

Kroger Mid-Atlantic announced Tuesday it plans to relocate its division office from Roanoke to Glen Allen by the end of this year, citing population growth in the Richmond and Hampton Roads regions.

“The move will establish division operations in a location that is better equipped and positioned to serve and support all markets throughout Kroger Mid-Atlantic,” according to Kroger Mid-Atlantic.

The division office in Roanoke currently employs approximately 100 people, and all associates are being offered opportunities to remain with the company, including relocation to Richmond or finding local opportunities with the company, says Allison McGee, corporate affairs manager with Kroger Mid-Atlantic. The company’s warehouse operations, logistics and its Roanoke district leadership team will remain in the region, however. It remains uncertain at this time whether the relocation will add jobs, McGee says.

“As we prepare for this next chapter in our division, we want our associates and communities to know that we’re committed to a safe, seamless and positive transition,” Kroger Mid-Atlantic President Paula Ginnett said in a statement. “This is not a goodbye to Roanoke because we will remain committed to the region and we will continue to support our associates, customers and community partners throughout the area.”

The Kroger Mid-Atlantic division office will move from 3631 Peters Creek Road in Roanoke to 140 East Shore Drive in Glen Allen, an existing 26,000-square-foot space. Kroger opened its first Roanoke region store 91 years ago and currently operates 11 stores there. The relocation will not have any impact on stores, pharmacies or fuel centers in Roanoke, according to Kroger Mid-Atlantic.

Kroger first came to Richmond in 2000 when it acquired 10 Hannaford grocery stores and has since grown to 18 stores in the region. Kroger Mid-Atlantic, as a whole, operates 110 stores across Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio, and employs approximately 18,000 people.
