Hilton Worldwide and Hyatt Hotels will build a hotel at The Wharf on D.C. waterfront

Published August 12, 2015 by Paula C. Squires

Hilton Worldwide and Hyatt Hotels Corp, will open a 413-room, dual-branded hotel at The Wharf, a new mixed-use, waterfront community going up in Washington, D.C.

Canopy by Hilton, a 120,000-square-foot lifestyle brand hotel, will have 175 rooms, and Hyatt House, a 145,000-square-foot extended-stay hotel, will have 238 rooms.

“We are excited about introducing our Canopy by Hilton brand to the Washington region and believe this is a perfect addition to The Wharf’s long-term vision of creating an urban neighborhood on the D.C. waterfront,” Christopher J. Nassetta, president and CEO of Hilton Worldwide, said a statement. The hospitality company is headquartered in McLean.

According to the project’s developer, Hoffman-Madison Waterfront, the combined hotels will include a café/bar and other dining options, a 1,100-square-foot fitness center, 2,500 square feet of meeting room space, a courtyard with outdoor terraces and water features, an outdoor pool and a rooftop bar with Washington Channel views.

The penthouse will include an additional 10,000 square feet lounge area with sweeping views of the Potomac. The total built area for both hotels, including ground-floor retail and shared space, is about 300,000 square feet.

The hotel site also includes more than 30,000 square feet of street-level retail and restaurant space and two levels of below-grade parking. It will be located between Maine Avenue and Wharf Street, adjacent to 7th Street Park.

The hotels plan to open in Fall 2017. Concord Hospitality Enterprises Co. will manage and operate both hotels. They are being designed by SmithGroup JJR.
