Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia announced Sept. 1 it has hired Mark Heinlein as vice president of workforce development.

With 30 years of experience, Heinlein most recently served as head of talent management for Affordable Care LLC. In his new role, he will oversee workforce development and will be responsible for securing partnerships to develop leadership and professional skills of Goodwill associates.

Heinlein held senior talent management and organizational development positions with the Cleveland Clinic, Lenovo Group Ltd., Carestream and Aramark Corp. and also served 11 years as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves.

“When we began the search for our vice president of our workforce development services, we knew we wanted someone who could bring a unique perspective to the table,” Goodwill CEO Mark Barth said in a statement. “Mark does just that. With his background in organizational development, he brings experience, knowledge and new ideas that will be invaluable to our team.”

Heinlein earned his bachelor’s degree in history from John Carroll University, his master’s degree in communications from East Carolina University and his educational specialist degree from Northcentral University. Outside of work, he volunteers as a captain in the Civil Air Patrol, serves as a coach/mentor for The Honor Foundation and is a member of Team Rubicon.

“I am both humbled and thrilled by the opportunity to be a part of Goodwill’s mission to help people help themselves through the power of work,” Heinlein said in a statement. “During my career, I’ve always worked hard to go where I am needed and feel as though I can make a difference. I look forward to developing strategic partnerships that will assist in the development of Goodwill and its important workforce efforts.”

Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia, with offices in Richmond and Hampton, provides job training and support services through donations and sales of used goods, contract services and philanthropic contributions.
