Federal Contractors/Technology: BRIAN HUSEMAN
VICE PRESIDENT OF PUBLIC POLICY, AMAZON.COM INC., ARLINGTON COUNTY
Huseman’s first job was at a Walmart in his Oklahoma hometown. “It’s where I first learned the importance of a customer service mindset,” he says. A former U.S. attorney and Federal Trade Commission general counsel, Huseman is passionate about the responsibility Amazon has “to be a good employer and neighbor.” That includes Arlington, where the e-tailer is constructing its $2.5 billion-plus HQ2 East Coast headquarters campus. In June, Amazon acquired the property for its 12-acre second phase, known as PenPlace, for $198 million from HQ2 developer JBG Smith.
Huseman previously was director of public policy for the Americas at Amazon, which he joined in 2012. He has weighed in on proposed antitrust legislation he says unfairly targets Amazon while excluding other competitors.
BEST ADVICE FOR OTHERS: One of the best pieces of advice I received (and like to pass on to others) is to raise your hand and be willing to take on work that may be outside of your comfort zone or job description. It’s how we grow and develop. You should also make sure that you enjoy the work that you do — and the people you do it with.
