Education: KARL McDONNELL
PRESIDENT AND CEO, STRATEGIC EDUCATION INC., HERNDON
CEO of Strategic Education Inc., an education services holding company that owns for-profit Strayer and Capella universities, McDonnell was previously SEI’s chief operating officer and serves on its board of directors. He’s also served as president and CEO of Strayer University, which has an enrollment of more than 50,000 students and 64 campuses in 15 states and Washington, D.C. Before working in higher education, McDonnell held leadership positions at InteliStaf Healthcare Inc. and Goldman Sachs.
McDonnell earned his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Wesleyan University and his MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
Through its Workforce Edge platform, SEI recently partnered with Dollar General, with the discount retailer paying for its employees to pursue degrees from Strayer and Capella. Food Lion also recently began offering its employees tuition reimbursement for degrees and certificates at 15 educational institutions through Workforce Edge.
Outside of work, McDonnell is a photographer, often capturing images from his travels.
