Economic Development: JARED CHALK
CHIEF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER, HAMPTON ROADS ALLIANCE, NORFOLK
In September, Chalk started his new position as the Hampton Roads Alliance’s chief rainmaker. It’s a good fit, considering he had been serving as executive director of the Norfolk Economic Development Authority, as well as the city’s economic development director, since 2020. (He held the positions on an interim basis beginning in 2018.)
Norfolk led the region last year in announcements of economic development projects and new jobs, as well as total capital invested. A Bridgewater College alumnus, Chalk has been instrumental in planning the redevelopment of Military Circle Mall into a new mixed-use community built around an arena. Chalk and the city have been in discussions for the project with a development team including music superstar Pharrell Williams. Chalk also has worked on the planned $100 million redevelopment of the Lambert’s Points Docks into an offshore wind energy hub.
