DXC Technology elects former Pfizer CEO as board chairman

Ian Read’s position will be effective March 16.

Published February 10, 2020 by Sydney Lake

DXC Technology’s board of directors elected Ian Read as its new chairman, which will be effective March 16, the Tysons-based IT company announced Thursday.

Read is the former chairman and CEO of New York City-based multinational pharmaceutical corporation Pfizer Inc., known for medications such as Lipitor, which treats high cholesterol. Read succeeds DXC Technology’s current board chairman, David Herzog, who will continue as a member of the board and as chair of the board’s audit committee.

Read retired from Pfizer on Dec. 31, 2019, after being in pharmaceuticals for more than 40 years. He had served as Pfizer’s CEO since 2010. Read earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from London University Imperial College and holds a chartered accountants certification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. He also serves on the board of directors for personal care company Kimberly-Clark Corp.

DXC was founded in 2017 and has approximately 6,000 private and public-sector clients in 70 countries. It offers analytics, cloud, application and consulting services.
