CES to go digital for 2021

The annual consumer tech trade show held in Las Vegas will be held online

Published July 28, 2020 by Sydney Lake

The Arlington-based Consumer Technology Association (CTA) announced Tuesday its 2021 CES tech trade show — held in Las Vegas every year — will be all digital. The nation’s premier trade show for the consumer technology industry, CES will be held from Jan. 6 through Jan. 9.

“Amid the pandemic and growing global health concerns about the spread of COVID-19, it’s just not possible to safely convene tens of thousands of people in Las Vegas in early January 2021 to meet and do business in person,” CTA CEO Gary Shapiro said in a statement. “Technology helps us all work, learn and connect during the pandemic – and that innovation will also help us reimagine CES 2021 and bring together the tech community in a meaningful way.”

The annual CES trade show — which hosts presentations of new products and technologies in the consumer electronics industry — has been held for the past 50 years and is one of the biggest in the world.

“CTA’s goal for CES 2021 is to provide an engaging platform for companies large and small to launch products, build brands and form partnerships, while prioritizing health and safety,” according to the CTA. “Members of the tech community thrive by coming together, sharing ideas and introducing products that will shape our future.”

It is anticipated that the trade show will be held in Las Vegas in 2022, according to the CTA.
