BAM Architects and Baskervill to merge

Published May 28, 2013 by Paula C. Squires

Baskervill and Burt Pinnock, founding principal of BAM Architects, are joining forces, the companies announced Tuesday. The move represents a strategic merger between two Richmond-based architecture firms that collaborated on numerous projects in recent years.

Pinnock will transition into a role as principal at Baskervill. “BAM Architects opened with a mission to help build a better Richmond. In collaboration with our clients and our community, BAM made meaningful contributions in this regard,” Pinnock said in a statement.  “I look forward to continuing this mission and existing client relationships with my team, while being able to offer … a broader spectrum of services, and increasing our geographic reach as a part of Baskervill’s team.”

The merger creates a 100-person design firm of architects, engineers, interior designers, urban planners and support personnel. Combined, they have a list of developer, government agency, non-profit, and Fortune 500 clients including GSA, Capital One Financial Corp., Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Tech, Markel and Marriott International to name a few.

Pinnock has served on numerous panels, boards, and commissions including the city of Richmond’s Urban Design Committee, Commission of Architectural Review and Board of Zoning Appeals and the Richmond Renaissance Advisory Committee. He was selected as a peer reviewer for the National Endowment of the Arts and is a GSA Peer Reviewer.

Before forming BAM, he was a design architect with Baskervill and has worked with Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer in New York, Il Laboratorio in Rome, Italy; Bernegger Quaglia Architects in Lugano, Switzerland; and the Paris office of Santiago Calatrava.

Robert Clark, president of Baskervill said in a statement that the move “makes sense for all parties, as we continue to grow, move into new geographic markets, and place an emphasis on a design culture rich in ingenuity and integrity.”

The official transition date is expected to be July 1. BAM Architects will close its doors effective June 30th.
