Arlington contractor wins award for National Guard, Reserve support

CACI International Inc. wins 2020 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award

Published September 14, 2020 by Sydney Lake

Arlington-based federal technology contractor CACI International Inc. received the 2020 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award for the company’s support of National Guard and Reserve employees.

“We are very honored to receive the Employer Support Freedom Award from the Department of Defense,” CACI President and CEO John Mengucci said in a Sept. 10 statement. “We know the importance of supporting our National Guard and Reservist employees to ensure they can have a successful civilian career while also upholding their duties to our Armed Forces and country.”

More than 2,600 nominations were submitted for the award this year, and since 1996 only 295 employers have received the Freedom Award. Nominations are submitted by Guard and Reserve members by the Department of Defense Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. To receive the award, the company’s support of veterans and the military must be an “integral part of the company’s culture.”

CACI’s executive chairman and chairman of the board J.P. London was the first CACI employee to serve as a commander in the Naval Reserves and was promoted in 1983 to captain. More than one-third of CACI employees are veterans, military spouses, transitioning service members or serving National Guards and Reserve members.

“At CACI, we greatly value veterans and members of the military community and pride ourselves on supporting those who have served our country,” London said in a statement. “These dedicated men and women have the skills and experience needed to help our DoD customers complete their missions and make positive contributions to our workforce.”

Founded in 1962, CACI specializes in enterprise and mission technology. The company has approximately 23,000 employees and is on the Fortune 1000 list.
