Career mentor:  John Claytor has been a constant and positive influence in my practice for over 20 years. John is a gifted lawyer whose diligent and methodical approach to resolving legal issues served as a wonderful example for me as a young lawyer. Even now, John remains my “go-to” confidant for difficult issues and my loyal friend.

What trends are you seeing in your insurance practice?
In the last few years, I have seen an increase in the number of insurance issues that are resolved as part of the underlying tort litigation through “global” mediation. Such “global” mediations provide the parties with a venue for addressing and weighing all issues at once and a way to minimize the potential risks to both insureds and insurers of proceeding to trial in either the coverage matter or the tort case.

Insurance is largely regulated by states. Should it come under more federal regulation?
No. Less is more.
