What trends are you seeing in real estate law? In the real estate industry, we are seeing more creativity and innovation with deal structures and financing, and a wider diversity of project types and uses. Development has become increasingly complex, and market forces are continuing to adjust projects in new and challenging ways.
In what real estate sector is your firm seeing the most activity? Our finance and real estate practice group serves clients in all aspects of commercial real estate, but we have several niche practices that are burgeoning – tax credits, land use, leasing and real estate investment. Our tax credit group is a market leader in the representation of developers, investors and lenders in low-income housing and historic tax credits (LIHTC) throughout Virginia and North Carolina. LIHTC development and rehabilitation continues to be particularly active, and I anticipate the market will continue to expand and strengthen over the next few years.
