Spending by foreign visitors in Virginia reached a record of $425 million in 2012, a 9 percent increase over 2011.

Canadian visitors last year spent $155 million in the commonwealth, an increase of 4 percent, according to the governor’s office.

State officials announced in early September that revenue from domestic visitors to the commonwealth also set a record in 2012, $21.2 billion, an increase of 4 percent from the previous year.
