Barry L. Henderson has been named president and general manager of Center in the Square in Roanoke, home to three museums, three performing arts companies and the region's arts council.

Henderson, a Roanoke native and graduate of Virginia Tech, will succeed James C. Sears, at the beginning of 2014. Sears was head of Center in the Square for 20 years.

Sears guided the center through a recently completed $30 million renovation project.

Henderson worked in the financial services industry for 37 years, 29 of which were with SunTrust Bank.

Since 2007, he has served as president and CEO for SunTrust Western Virginia.

He serves on the boards of Downtown Roanoke Inc. (Chair 2013-14) and Child Health Investment Partnership (CHIP) of Roanoke Valley. He is chair-elect of the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Henderson was co-chair of major gifts for Center in the Square’s recent capital campaign.
