Norfolk-based WR Systems Ltd. will supply advanced laser emissions monitoring equipment to be used in two new cruise ships.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Nagasaki, Japan, ordered the equipment, which will be used in two 125,000-ton passenger vessels now under construction for Carnival cruise line’s AIDA Cruise brand.
The amount of the contract was not disclosed.
WR Systems said the monitoring system has a laser-based emissions sensor, allowing high accuracy measurements.
“These vessels will be constructed to the highest environmental standards and feature many new technologies to reduce emissions and improve efficiency,” Simon Brown, WR Systems’ maritime business director, said in a statement.
In addition to emissions monitoring systems, the company’s maritime products and services include data and communication systems; depth, speed and navigation systems; and radar systems.
