Potomac Hospital’s affiliation with Norfolk-based Sentara Healthcare is now official. The Woodbridge facility has changed its name to Sentara Potomac Hospital.

The proposed affiliation, announced in June, was approved by the Federal Trade Commission and the Virginia Attorney General’s office.

Sentara has pledged to improve the hospital’s infrastructure and invest $92 million in a foundation to address unmet health-care needs among Prince William County residents.

Officials said a transition period of up to a year will take place as the hospital’s operations, IT systems and business practices are integrated into Sentara’s network. Sentara, a nonprofit integrated health-care system, operates more than 100 sites, including eight hospitals, in Virginia and North Carolina.
