If car sales is any indication, the economic recovery has certainly begun.
Volkswagen reported that its March sales were up 41 percent over March of 2009. This came a day after CarMax announced its revenues were up 25 percent for its most recent quarter.
Volkswagen of America, based in Herndon, sold 22,148 vehicles in March. For year-to-date sales, the company was up 38.4 percent compared with the previous year.
Volkswagen said it had seen a notable increase in its TDI Clean Diesel vehicles, with Jetta SportWagen TDI accounting for 85 percent of all Jetta SportWagens sold in March.
“The strong performance in March of Volkswagen’s many new models is further proof that we are continuing to gain positive momentum,” said Mark Barnes, COO of Volkswagen of America, said in a statement.
