‘Virginia Values Veterans’ plans to match veterans with employers
- June 15, 2012
The Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS) is spearheading “Virginia Values Veterans” (V3), an initiative started to help companies hire and retain military veterans.
The plan will develop a statewide approach to reducing veteran unemployment by helping match employers with veterans in search of work.
Most of the veterans employment programs currently focus on helping veterans with resume writing and other job searching skills.
Companies that are part of the program will go through a certification process that includes customized workforce assessment and training.
Spotsylvania-based TMG Inc. will work with DVS to create the certification program.
As for how veterans can benefit employers, Joe Barto, president and founder of TMG, said, “The men and women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces come to you with the skills you really need, the ones that are not easily taught.”
