Virginia ranked best place to make a living

MoneyRates.com has ranked Virginia as the country’s best state to make a living.
For the second year, MoneyRates.com ranked states based on average income, cost of living, state income tax rate and the unemployment rate.
Virginia ranked fourth last year on the list, jumping to first this year.
The website determined Virginia’s adjusted average income, which excludes extreme highs or lows, was $43,677, up $2,557 from last year. The website also noted that at the same time, the cost of living fell in the commonwealth.
The rest of the top five included Washington, Texas, Illinois and Colorado. The ranking determined that Hawaii was the worst state to make a living, followed by Maine, Vermont, Mississippi and Montana.
