Virginia localities make up a third of the nation’s 15 wealthiest counties

Northern Virginia houses some of the country’s wealthiest residents.

Five localities made Main St.’s list of the top 15 wealthiest counties in the U.S., based on U.S. Census data.

Loudoun County topped the list with a median household income of $119,540. Neighboring Fairfax came in second with a median income of $103,010. The median household income for the nation was $49,445 in 2010.

The other Virginia localities to make the list were Arlington County, which was fifth on the list with a median income of $94,986, Stafford County, which was seventh on the list with a median income of $94,317 and Prince William County came in ninth at $92,655.
