Virginia job growth continued slow pace in third quarter

Employment in Virginia continued to grow slowly in the third quarter, according to information released by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
The FDIC’s state profile of Virginia showed that total nonfarm employment rose 0.3 percent during the third quarter from the same three-month period in 2010.
Employment in the commonwealth also grew at 0.3 percent in the second quarter of 2011 and the third quarter of 2010.
For all of 2010, employment declined 0.4 percent after dropping 3.2 percent in 2009.
Among employment sectors, the number of manufacturing jobs grew 0.7 percent during the third quarter, while private-sector service jobs and government positions both increased 0.4 percent.
