Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance to acquire New York firm

Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co. of Richmond plans to purchase Countryway Insurance Co. of Syracuse, N.Y.
Countryway is a property and casualty insurance company that offers farm, auto and home insurance in 10 states. VFB has agreed to purchase 100 percent of Countryway’s stock from United Farm Family Mutual Insurance Co.
The acquisition is subject to approval from the New York Insurance Department.
Countryway has premiums of more than $33 million. It operates primarily in rural New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Virginia. Its headquarters will remain in Syracuse.
