Virginia Chamber to release new statewide economic development plan
- November 28, 2012
The Virginia Chamber of Commerce will release Blueprint Virginia, a statewide economic development initiative to focus on key areas of growth at its 3rd annual Virginia Economic Summit tomorrow.
The blueprint seeks to bring together regional leaders and industry experts over the next year to analyze the state and regional economies and establish economic development goals along with overarching statewide themes.
Summit speakers will include U.S. Sen. Mark Warner and Larry Sabato. Sabato, a political analyst at the University of Virginia, will offer a retrospective of the recent presidential and Virginia Senate races and look into his crystal ball for 2013 predictions.
Warner will discuss the nation’s coming “fiscal cliff” of tax hikes and federal spending cuts ―which Congress is trying to avoid by taking action by year-end ― and the impact they could have on Virginia’s economy.
Also slated to speak is nationally recognized economist Mark Vitner of Wells Fargo who will provide the latest economic forecast and predictions going forward into 2013.
At the summit luncheon former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour will discuss his state’s efforts to implement a long term economic development strategy. During his nearly 40 years in the public arena, Barbour has been an advisor to presidents and the chairman of the Republican Party. He recently completed his second, four-year term as governor.
The summit will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Williamsburg Lodge & Conference Center.
