Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods and Martin’s are partnering on a three-year sponsorship agreement for Richmond’s popular running event, now titled the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Martin’s.

The announcement was made today at the First Friday Forum hosted by the Retail Merchants Association by Rick Herring, president of Giant/Martin’s, and Bobby Ukrop, president and CEO of Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods.

“We’re thrilled that MARTIN’S is partnering with Ukrop’s to sponsor the Monument Avenue 10k,” Bobby Ukrop, president and CEO of Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods, said in a statement. “Their decision reinforces their commitment to the Richmond region and the importance of the 10k in helping encourage a more active, healthy community.”

This was the first public announcement regarding the future sponsorship of the Monument Avenue 10k, the nation’s 10th biggest running race of any distance and the 26th largest in the world. The 2010 race had a record of more than 37,000 entrants.

“One of the signature events in Richmond is the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k,” Rick Herring, president of Giant/Martin’s said in a statement. “It is an event that makes Richmond a national destination and brings everyone – from young to old – together as a community. I am delighted to announce today that MARTIN’S will be the presenting sponsor of the 2011-2013 Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k.”

The 12th running of the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Martin’s will be April 2, 2011.
