Tucanos Brazilian Grill will open first East coast location In Newport News
- December 3, 2012
When Tucanos Brazilian Grill opens its doors on Dec. 21 in City Center at Oyster Point in Newport News, the opening will mark the debut of the company’s Brazilian dining experience on the East coast and its sixth restaurant nationally.
Tucanos said in a press release that it will hire a staff nearly 225 employees from the area, including servers, chefs, food preparers and management, and that it expects to pump $3 million into the local economy.
Tucanos offers an exhibition-style meal. Staffers grill specially seasoned or marinated meats and vegetables (nearly 20 varieties) and then serve them hot off of skewers at each table.
Founded in 2000, Tucanos Brazilian Grill began after founder and President Steve Oldham spent time in Brazil on work assignments when he was with PepsiCo’s International Restaurant group. Oldham liked the culture, flavors and energy of Brazilian dining and created the first Tucanos Brazilian Grill in Provo, Utah, when he returned to the U.S.
The restaurant currently has five western locations. The one in Newport News will seat more than 220 people with an additional 50 seats when the patio is open.
