State work-force centers are opening today in Prince William County, Danville and South Boston.

The centers connect jobseekers and businesses and house nonprofit organizations and state and local government agencies, such as the local community college, Virginia Employment Commission and the Department of Rehabilitative Services. The idea is to bring together agencies with common goals into one place.

Two such centers already exist. Another seven are in the planning stages, including on in Arlington that is expected to open next month.

The public has access to advice in resume building, education training for the GED, secondary education, financial management and job services at the centers. The center is focused on high-demand jobs and people with disabilities, veterans, older workers and ex-offenders.
