New contracts and add-ons to old ones gave a healthy boost to ManTech International Corp.’s third quarter earnings. The Fairfax-based company reported revenue of $514.6 million, up $28.5 million or 6 percent, compared to the same period in 2008.

Diluted earnings per share were 81 cents for the third quarter, up 21 percent compared to 67 cents for the same period a year ago. The defense contractor, a leading provider of technologies for national security programs, said it received $456 million in contracts during the third quarter, with more than 50 percent of them coming from new business or add-ons to existing contracts.
