Tazewell County vote a roadblock for wind farm plans
- February 3, 2010
Plans for a wind farm in Tazewell County appear to be in jeopardy after a vote by the Tazewell County Board of Supervisors.
Dominion Resources and BP Wind Energy have proposed building wind farms in Tazewell and Wise counties. Tazewell supervisors, however, voted 3-2 yesterday to prohibit structures taller than 40 feet on ridgelines, according to the Bristol Herald Courier. Wise County supervisors, by contrast, have approved wind farm plans for their county.
A member of the Mountain Preservation Association, a group formed to oppose the project, told the newspaper that Tazewell site was one of the most visible corridors in the county. The Wise County site, on the other hand, is remote.
Dominion and BP Wind Energy announced their wind farm plans in January 2009.
