Southern Virginia localities announce marketing partnership
- March 16, 2011
Six localities in the Southern Virginia have created an alliance to market the region for economic development.
The Southern Virginia Regional Alliance will market the strengths of the cities of Danville and Martinsville, and Halifax, Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania counties.
“Experience has taught us that our economic development efforts are more successful when regions of the state work together, rather than compete with each other,” Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling said in a statement. “Last year, Governor McDonnell and I forged a partnership with these localities that encouraged them to work together to promote their region as a great place for business.”
Economic development directors from each locality will create a marketing campaign to promote the region’s assets and identify industries to target.
The alliance is planning to hire an executive director and plans for a website and other marketing tools.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership will provide $200,000 over two years that will be matched by the participating localities and the Tobacco Commission.
