- February 16, 2012
MEB General Contractors Inc. in Chesapeake has been selected as the design/build contractor for a new hotdog and bologna processing facility in Kinston, N.C. The 190,000-square-foot project for Smithfield Packing Co. will replace an existing plant in Portsmouth. Clark Nexsen is designing the building, which is scheduled for completion in early 2013.
MEB will coordinate the installation of processing equipment for three new production lines and will provide accommodations for the future expansion of a fourth line. Equipment connections will include high pressure water, steam, air, power, and process-control wiring. In the past 18 years, MEB General Contractors said it has completed more than a dozen projects for Smithfield Foods, based out of Smithfield, Va.
