Smithfield Foods has cut production at its slaughterhouses 10 percent and is reducing employee hours because of fears of the worldwide flu outbreak , according to The Virginian-Pilot.
The H1N1 virus, as scientists call it, cannot be spread by consuming pork. But many consumers have been confused because of its more common name, “swine flu.”
The Smithfield-based company released a statement on Sunday reiterating that the virus had not been found in any of its herds or employees at its worldwide operations. (The Virginian-Pilot)
