Smithfield appoints first-ever sustainability officer
- February 23, 2010
Smithfield Foods Inc. has named its first chief sustainability officer.
The company promoted Dennis H. Treacy to the position as well as senior vice president of corporate affairs.
Treacy has worked Smithfield since 2002 as vice president of environment and corporate affairs.
The company said the new position is part of its increased focus on corporate responsibility.
“Our business has become much more complex as we confront increasing government regulation and rising public and customer awareness of corporate social responsibility practices and sustainability,” CEO C. Larry Pope said in a statement. “We understand that our long-term success directly correlates with our ability to effectively address these factors and that these programs must be managed from a senior level within our organization.”
