Skanska USA and Branch Highways’ joint venture receives VDOT contract

A joint venture of Skanska USA and Branch Highways of Roanoke has received a contract from the Virginia Department of Transportation to build a 6.24-mile-long bypass for Route 29 in Charlottesville and Albemarle County.

The $135.9 million contract will build a four-lane divided, limited access bypass located west of Route 29 to reduce roadway congestion and improve through traffic.

The overall construction project includes earthworks, four-lane divided highway construction, paving, bridges, drainage and storm water management facilities, MSE and sound barrier wall installation and intelligent transportation system and traffic control device installation.

Construction is expected to begin in July and be complete in 2016.
