Skanska has received a $47.6 million contract to help build the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.

The three-story, 525,000-square-foot building will have 44 beds and emergency and surgery departments.

Under the contract, Skanska will be responsible for the design, building and construction management of the project.

The hospital will be designed to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards.

It is expected to be completed in December 2011.
