Rutherfoord will move to new 30,000-square-foot office building in Libbie Mill

Rutherfoord, a Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC company, plans to relocate to office space in Libbie Mill, a new mixed-use community under development off Staples Mill Rd. in Henrico County.
The project’s developer, Gumenick Properties, said Thursday that construction on a 30,000-square-foot office space is expected to begin this spring. Upon completion, Rutherfoord plans to consolidate its downtown Richmond office at Haxall Point with its KSPH division, a Glen Allen, Virginia-based employee benefits agency acquired by Rutherfoord in 2012.
In all, more than 100 Rutherfoord and KSPH employees will come together in Libbie Mill-Midtown, located at 4900 Libbie Mill East Boulevard. Rutherfoord’s offices will occupy space on the first and second floors. Current plans call for the relocation to occur in spring 2016.
“Leaving downtown Richmond is a difficult decision for us but the combination of location and amenities being developed at Libbie Mill-Midtown was just too appealing,” John C. Stanchina, Rutherfoord’s president, said in a statement.
Rutherfoord joins a growing list of companies migrating to Libbie Mill. It’s a big catch for the new community, which was named the 2015 Project of the Year on Tuesday by the Greater Richmond Association of Commercial Real Estate. (GRACRE). Founded in 1916, Rutherfoord has grown from its Virginia roots into one of the largest risk management and insurance brokerage firms in the United States (as part of Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC), with offices from Philadelphia to the Gulf Coast region and client operations in all 50 states.
Other Libbie Mill tenants include Richmond Memorial Health Foundation, Gumenick Properties and Southern Season of Chapel Hill, N.C., which operates a 53,000-square foot gourmet food store.
A new library, the Henrico County Libbie Mill-Midtown Library, also is scheduled to open in November 2015.
