Morooka plant planned for Hanover County
Morooka America will establish a manufacturing operation in Hanover County, creating up to 50 new jobs over the next three years.

Under a license agreement with Japan-based Morooka Co. Ltd, a maker of rubber track carriers, Ashland-based Morooka America will open its first plant in the U.S. The 50,000-square-foot facility will produce 100 machines annually, valued at more than $15 million. The project will create up to 50 new jobs over the next three years. Morooka America is a subsidiary of Ashland-based Richmond Group LLC.

CapitalOne to create data center
McLean-based Capital One Financial Corp. plans to invest more than $150 million to start a data center in Chesterfield County. The project will create at least 50 new jobs.
Capital One is the country’s sixth largest bank, based on deposits, and with the acquisition of ING Direct, is now the largest direct bank in the country. Capital One employs more than 14,000 workers in Virginia.

Sabra expands in Chesterfield
Sabra Dipping Co. is expanding its hummus manufacturing operation and will establish a research and development facility on the company’s 49-acre campus in the Ruffin Mill Industrial Park in Chesterfield County.

The expansion, announced in June, includes the addition of two new lines, a packaging automation system, water waste systems and related plant improvements. The factory expansion will increase the Chesterfield plant’s production capacity by 50 percent.

The 20,000-square-foot research and development facility will feature a state of the art culinary center, ideation space, a pilot plant, offices and research centers.

New facilities for Health Diagnostic Laboratory
Work is under way on a new six-story building in the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park in Richmond that will be part of the headquarters for fast-growing Health Diagnostic Laboratory (HDL) Inc.

Once it’s complete, the three-building headquarters complex will be valued at $100 million. The project is an expansion for HDL, a clinical laboratory that is adding hundreds of jobs. (See interview on page 13.)

The project will include a 112,000-square-foot wet lab biotech building with a two-story parking deck expansion. The parking facilities will be connected by a two-story lab that bridges HDL’s existing building and the new Phase I building, scheduled for completion in December.

In the second phase of development in 2013, an additional six-story, 112,000-square-foot tower will be built. At total buildout, the two towers and HDL’s existing building will total more than 300,000 square feet, and the facility will have a 485-space parking deck. building fulfillment centers, Inc. is scheduled to open fulfillment centers in Chesterfield and Dinwiddie counties by this fall, investing a total of $135 million and creating more than 1,350 jobs.
The facilities will handle online orders from throughout the United States. originally would have been exempt from paying state sales taxes. Under pressure from state retailers and legislators, however, Gov. Bob McDonnell and the company reached an agreement requiring online retailers with a distribution, warehouse, fulfillment center or office in the commonwealth to collect and pay state sales taxes on products sold to Virginia consumers.
